Analog-to-Digital Converters for simultaneous sampling

Introduction

In several modern techniques, it is necessary to sample two or more signals simultaneously. Distances and speeds might be measured this way in automotive applications, and in telecom simultaneous sampling of control and data signals might be needed. Two of the largest applications requiring simultaneous sampling are power conversion and motor control: Servo, robots, assembly lines, drilling machines or washing. Texas Instruments, Tucson (the Burr-Brown Division) has developed several integrated circuits (ICs) for simultaneous sampling, with four and six fully-differential input channels, internal multiplexer, and two or three ADCs on a chip. Both parallel and serial interfaces are offered. This article shows the advantages of the single-chip solution.
