by Paul McGoldrick It seems to be standard practice for "house" magazines to request the involvement of "You, the reader; because this magazine is for you." That should probably be read as "We've had real trouble scraping together this issue and we don't know how we're going to do the next one. Help!" Analog Avenue is not that way; we have lots of gigabytes available each and every day and you may have noticed that a large section of the manufacturers in our industry want to take a part in our pages. And that doesn't surprise us here at ChipCenter. Where else would you find this volume of material with a dedicated focus about our analog world? Apart from the volume of columns that dot our pages, all fully archived so you only need one starting URL to find them, we have reviewed 400 separate analog products and we have offered numerous -- really practical, we hope -- TechNotes to help you in your jobs. In addition, the full facilities of ChipCenter's WebScan are available with Applications Notes, Data Sheets and Manufacturers' press releases allowing you to view original material without editorial interpretation: We editorialize and add value where we are competent to do so. Many print magazines take the view that allowing readers to read manufacturers' press releases is akin to giving those sources the ability to control your minds, offering you no credit for your intelligence or your ability to read through the real facts. I liken it to the dawn of the printing era when the Church became horrified at the availability of bibles in English -- removing the qualified interpreters, the clergy, from the loop. So, even in our product reviews on Analog Avenue the manufacturers get to say their piece unedited; if there are warts? So be it; absurd executive quotes? So be it. Generally the manufacturers are not concerned because the prime reason their products have been chosen for review is that Analog Avenue believes they will sell and make the companies money. But what we are not yet offering readers is an area where we can share analog tips and solutions. We're not looking for full-scale application notes -- but don't let that stop you offering them! -- but we are looking for suggestions, escapes, make-dos, short-cuts that you have found and which you think would help other designers. It can be as simple as a paragraph and a sketch, we'll take care of the rest. And yes, we will pay you a token amount for each tip that is published; it won't make you rich, but it should make you feel better. Become part of this online experience and earn your moment in publishing with your shared analog moment. Analog Main | Product of the Week | Columns | Editorial | Tech Notes
