Fairchild Semiconductor introduces lowest RDS9(on) surface-mount MOSFETs in SO-14 packages

FDQ4006N MOSFET

Fairchild Semiconductor releases a new MOSFET boasting very low I2R losses and high efficiency over a wide range of load currents. The low RDS(on) FDQ4006N is available in the conventional SO-14 surface-mount package. This device offers space and cost savings in high-current DC:DC converter applications such as Pentium II desktop motherboards, stand-alone DC:DC converter modules and other high-current switching converters.

The very low 7.5mA RDS(on) max. enables designers to replace higher power thru-hole packaged MOSFETs or multiple paralleled SO-8 parts with a single SO-14 packaged product. The new MOSFET (FDQ4006N) allows for up to 20mm2 space savings over two SO-8 packages.

Despite the seeming gobbledy-gook of the press statement this part is really worth looking at for high-current dc-dc applications. With space a premium in most designs this product is superior in many ways to other offerings that are out there and the prices look right. Compare the performance with slightly higher-priced products that are being hyped a lot more. And expect to see even more of this sort of development from Fairchild.

The FDQ4006N SO-14 packaged MOSFET is priced at $1.59 in 10,000 lots with both samples and production quantities available.
