The Challenge of Bi-directional Image
by Image Power Wireless data networks enable the mobile worker to communicate anywhere, anytime without the restrictions a hard wireline connection to the telephone system placed on the user. This newfound freedom comes at a price, however, as existing wireless data tariff rates are based on the quantity of information transferred rather than on the time the user is connected. If the cost of transferring images on wireless data networks could be reduced by compressing the images substantially, beyond existing compression levels, then new applications for wireless data networks could be found.
