NEW PRODUCT NEWSedited by Harv Weiner

New ProductsUSB SERIAL PORT BOARD

The WhiteHEAT USB is a compact, low-profile box that plugs into the USB port of any PC to provide four RS-232 serial ports with DE-9 male connectors. The front panel features status LEDs that indicate serial port activity and USB status.

The unit is fully USB 1.0 compliant and compatible with Windows 98 and Windows 2000 (NT 5.0) serial communications applications. It is completely plug and play so there are no jumpers or DIP switches to set. It offers data-transfer rates up to 460.9 kbps on all ports, making it ideal for high-speed modems, ISDN terminal adapters, barcode scanners/readers, printers, and any other serial peripherals.

WhiteHEAT USB uses state of the art 16C654 quad UARTs with 64 bytes of transmit and receive FIFO buffers to offload interrupt handling and buffering from the main CPU. This improves overall system performance. IEC1000-4-compliant ESD protection is provided on all signals on all ports.

The WhiteHEAT USB Board includes a comprehensive installation guide, a USB cable for connecting to the host computer, and software drivers for Windows 98. A special promotional price of $175 is available to new customers until November 30, 1999, with a limit of one unit per customer.
