INTERNET
MODEM
The iChip Internet
Modem Module (IMM) is a streaming socket technology-based Internet
modem. It combines a true single-chip embedded modem with the iChip
TCP/IP/PPP hardware protocol stack, thus offering complete Internet
connectivity. The modem targets low-cost and portable devices for
test and measurement, data collection and remote sensing, as well
as other field-deployed devices that must be connected to the Internet
via a dial-up network using the TCPBYPPP protocol.

Streaming socket
technology uniquely manages multiple TCP sockets over a single communications
channel, such as a serial port. In addition, each socket can be deployed
for virtually any Internet protocol. This makes it suitable for a
wide range of Internet applications while ensuring code and design
data reusability. It also allows a TCP socket to be used without requiring
knowledge of data lengths. It is ideal for memory, code size, or other
resource-constrained systems.
The IMM features
S7600A TCP/IP/PPP hardware protocol stack and a 73M290lC fast-connect
modem. It is also socket-compatible with the Conexant SocketModem
family of data link modems, thus providing a compact, industry-standard
form factor and a direct upgrade path for systems currently being
deployed with SocketModem data link-only modems.
The Internet Modem
Module evaluation kit is now available at a price of $99. The
IMM reference design and license to use the streaming socket technology
is also currently available at no charge.
