WHAT'S YOUR ENGINEERING QUOTIENT?

Test Your EQ•Take a Swing!

Problem 4—How many ounces make up one Newton?

Answer: A mass of 1 kg weighs 2.21 lbs at 1g (9.8 m/s/s). In other words,

2.21 lb = 1 kg × 9.8 m/s/s
2.21 lb = 9.8 N

It is now straightforward that,

1 lb = 4.43 N
and,
1N = 0.225 lb

One pound has 16 oz. Consequently, 1N = 3.59oz.
