Single-Board
Computer
The PCM-5820 is a single-board computer
designed for space-critical applications. It features a Pentium-class
Cyrix GXM-233 processor with a VGA/LCD interface, audio, 10/100Base--T
Ethernet, CompactFlash card socket, and a connector for up to 64 MB
of RAM in the space of a 3.5" floppy drive. Advantages of the
board include low-power consumption for a fanless design, a two-chip
processor for smaller board space, and optional bundled Windows CE
to reduce licensing and development time and cost.

The two-chip Cyrix GXM processor is designed
to work well in environments with temperatures of up to 60ęC without
a fan. The lack of the fan increases the MTBF for the board. The Cyrix
CX5530 chip set is used along with an AWARD 256K flash BIOS. In addition
the board features an enhanced IDE hard drive interface, floppy drive
interface, parallel port, two serial ports, watchdog timer, USB interface,
keyboard, mouse, and infrared ports. APM 1.1 compliant power management
is also included. Expansion is accommodated through 16-bit PC/104
module connectors.
The PCM-5820CE-10C version of this board
comes with pre-installed Windows CE Version 2.1 on a 10-MB CompactFlash
card. This is ideal for harsh environments where solid state storage
and a small footprint are required.
The PCM-5820CE-10C sells for $527 in
100-unit quantities.
