Data
Encryption Toolkit
The Hi/fn 7811 is a toolkit that
consists of reference hardware, software, and documentation. It is
designed to help reduce the time it takes makers of Virtual Private
Networks (VPN) to take their products to market. Applications include
remote access concentrators (RACs), network servers, routers, and
VPN gateways. In addition to being the latest security processor,
the 7811 performs compression, encryption, and authentication within
a single processor.

The 7811 reference hardware is a board
used for the evaluation of the 7811 network security processor and,
with minor modifications, can be a reference design for the packet
processing portion of a security subsystem. The board is a PCI bus
adapter card that utilizes the 7811 and EEPROM to support the PCI
interface. It can be used in either 3.3-V or 5-V systems. The 7811
reference software provides examples for driving the 7811 to perform
compression, encryption, and authentication over data in a single
pass. The reference software reduces 7811 development time and is
easily portable to any system architecture and operating system.
The 7811 processor and the associated
subsystem meet the-high performance requirements of VPNs. The 7811
performance advantage derives from both raw engine speed and the ability
to internally process a large number of sessions and associated memory
tasks. The processor encrypts IP packets triple data encryption standard
(DES) algorithms at 252 Mbps, supports 32,768 simultaneous IPSec sessions
(IPSec is the protocol used in VPNs), and has an unlimited capacity
for direct memory access (DMA) entries.
The 7811 reference kit is priced at $1000.
