ISDN
Terminal Adapters
Xecom has announced two modular terminal
adapters that enable equipment designers to include ISDN access into
a design with the addition of a single component. Available for both
the European S/T interface and the North American U interface standards,
the adapters use channel bonding techniques to provide a full 128-Kbps
digital channel in synchronous mode. Applications include high data-rate
process monitoring and control, compressed or slow-scan video, network
monitoring, high-quality audio transmission, remote LAN access, and
Internet/lntranet access.

The XEISDNB is an ISDN terminal
adapter with integral NT1 (U interface). It implements 2B1Q encoding
per ANSI T1.601 for the North American standard interface and is compatible
with all standard ISDN central office switches. The setup of ISDN
switch parameters and module configuration is implemented through
an extended AT command set, setup menus, or preset configurations
built into the firmware and accessible through the RS-232 port. Special
designer-friendly features include an ISDN monitor function with 15
designing, downloading, and debugging commands to simplify custom
firmware design by the equipment maker and 256K ý 16 flash memory
for firmware update flexibility.
Both the XEISDNB and S provide a serial
data channel capable of 1200 to 128,000 bps synchronous or 300 to
115,300 bps asynchronous data rate over a single ISDN connection (two
bonded B-channels). Multi-link PPP (point-to-point protocol), asynchronous
inverse multiplexing (AIM), and synchronous bonding protocol are implemented
within the modules to enable the user to choose a protocol compatible
with his system architecture. The user data interface is a standard
5-V level RS-232 serial port configuration. 12-V RS-232 drivers may
be added externally if desired.
The XEISDNB sells for $279 and
the XEISDNS sells for $259.
