NEW PRODUCT NEWSedited by Harv Weiner

New ProductsEthernet Controller

The PMC-3120 is a PCI mezzanine card (PMC) that features a high-performance gigabit Ethernet interface controller port. It can relieve bottlenecks in data communications, LAN/WAN, and telecommunications applications that require high-bandwidth system interconnection and a copper interface.

Transmission speeds comparable to those over fiber cable can be achieved with standard Category 5 cabling. The card includes 16 KB of transmit and 48 KB of receive FIFO buffer memory to allow back-to-back transmissions with minimal interface latency. A 100BaseTx and 1000BaseT auto-detection CSMA/CD interface controller is also provided.

The physical interface supports auto-negotiation, collision detection, link detection, 4B/5B encoding/decoding (100BaseTx) and scrambling/descrambling (100 BaseTx). Both half and full duplex modes are supported. Standard network connection is accomplished via a front panel RJ45 connector.

Software drivers for VxWorks, Linux, and Windows NT are available to speed integration.

The Ethernet network interface complies with the IEEE 802.3 specification for 100BaseTx and IEEE 802.3ab specification for 1000BaseT over Category 5 Universal Twisted Pair (UTP) cable. The card is compliant with standard single-wide PMC IEEE P1386.1 and PCI 2.2 specifications.

The PMC-3120 sells for $695.
