Normally I stick close to home covering the embedded world thatıs been my beat these many years. Thereıs more than enough neat stuff to cover, and itıs more about technology than suits. Nevertheless, itıs sometimes the case that I venture out into the world of big iron computing.

For example, although Iım personally a "Take My ComputerıPLEASE!" sort of guy, thereıs no denying that embedded PCs play a huge role in the board-and-box segment of the embedded market. [1]

Likewise, one of my favorite topics, embedded Internet, is inextricably linked with its commercial computing counterpart. The fact is, whatever flavor of Internet youıre talking about, everything has to hook up. Which brings us to this monthıs topic, networking.

The good news is that there are more ways than ever to connect an embedded gadget to the ıNet. Can you guess what the bad news is? I swear the big iron types have never met a connector, cable, or protocol that they didnıt like. Just look at the back of your PC. And, going wireless may get rid of the cables, but judging by what I read in the trade press headlines, it wonıt get rid of the clutter. [2]
