Lessons from the TrenchesPART 1: WHATýS IT ALL ABOUT?
by George Martin

Start ý Narrowing Specs ý Selecting the CPU ý Packaging ý The Software ý Memory ý Your Job ý Sources and PDF

YOUR JOB

OK, your assignment. Write up your system requirements. Keep it simple. You could do something like this:

  • CPU speed
  • Bus width
  • DRAM size
  • Flash memory size
  • EPROM size
  • SRAM size
  • Power-supply input
  • Package size

Search the literature for a CPU and DRAM. Then, next month, Iýll talk about EPROM and emulator selection, as well as starting to look at software development tools.

Remember indecision is the key to flexibility.
