A Guide for Online Information About:

CDR and CDRW

by Brant Schroeder

Part: 1 2

Before purchasing a CD Recordable (CD-R) or CD Read/Write (CD-RW) drive, it's a good idea to consider other available options.

CD-R drives allow you to do everything that a standard CD-ROM is capable of doing, however at the same time, it allows you to create your own CDs for backup. This is an excellent solution for anyone that is in need of a cheap efficient form of back-up.

CD-RW drives allow you to do everything that a standard CD-ROM is capable of, as well as read and write to a CD-RW disc instead of once like a CD-RW drive. Although a little more expensive, this is another great solution for back-up.

The pages I have compiled below contain links to pages that have information about the latest CD-R and CD-RW technologies. If you are purchasing a CD-RW drive or just interested in whatýs new, then these pages should help you out.

I was really hoping to be able to find out what is going on in the way of Double Density Compact Discs. Sony and some other manufacturers announced last year that they would be producing a new format of CDs that would be capable of holding up to 1.3 GB of information. This may be technology we never see what with the big push for cheaper DVD-R and DVD-RAM drives. If I can get more information about this, I'll be sure to do a page on it.

This CD-R/RW page contains information on and links to CD Recordable and CD ReWritable products, including hardware, software, duplicators, media, labeling equipment, CD printers, and low-cost CD test systems. You can also visit the virtual CD-R museum, which has photographs and descriptions of some of the early CD recordable systems.

This page has it all. It contains information about CDs, CD-Rs, DVDs, and practically anything you can think of in the way of discs. If you go to the CD-R/RW page, you'll find the latest information in the way of hardware and software. There is also pages explaining how this media works and the history of CD-Rs. This link also contains tutorial pages on how to duplicate, label print, and test you CD-Rs.

Buying a CD-R or CD-RW drive can sometimes be a confusing task. Below I have listed important considerations to look at when considering purchasing a CD-R drive.

This page is informative about CD-R technology. It walks you through the new technologies being used in CD recording so you understand what the drives' capabilities are. It also contains a wonderful list of links that are helpful.

CD-RW CENTRAL

CD-RW Central

CD-RW central is basically a page that focuses on the latest products that are being released by companies for sale. It has reviews about software and hardware that are relatively up to date. They also have some interesting articles about some new products that will be hitting the market soon. The other links were good when they were not dead. I found a lot of dead pages within the other links section.

"We are a new website dedicated to CD-Rs and all other removable media that surround them. Our goal is to provide accurate, informative reports on as many CD-R products as we can. What this means to you is a consistent testing method so that all hardware and software are evaluated on an even level. CDRLabs will give you a solid base line with which to base your upgrade/purchasing decisions."

This page is informative, so check it out! It has reviews, news, and articles about all the new CD-R products.

I am always looking for more material about interesting subjects. If you would like to share information about robotics or see a Resource Page on a particular topic, contact me,
