Selecting the proper microcontroller
unit (MCU) is one of the critical decisions that controls the success
or failure of your project. There are many criteria to consider when
choosing an MCU, and this article serves to enumerate most of them.
In reviewing the MCU selection process, you must attach your own grading
scale to the selection criteria and then evaluate the total to make
the right personal decision.
The main goal is to select the MCU that
minimizes the overall cost of the system while still fulfilling the
system specification (e.g., performance and reliability). The cost
includes everything: engineering research and development, manufacturing
(parts and labor), warranty repairs, updates, field service, upward
compatibility, ease of use, and so on.ote
