Linux
Development Kit
The PowerPC based
embedded Linux development kit provides a complete solution
for development engineers seeking to learn more about embedded Linux,
and contains all hardware, software, and tools necessary to develop
Linux drivers and applications for embedded systems.

The kit is based
on the QS850 Processor/Flash/RAM (PFR) module. This small but powerful
module contains a Motorola MPC850 processor running at 80 MHz. A 32-bit
bus drives 16 Mb of on-board SDRAM and 4 Mb of on-board flash memory.
The QS850 PFR is mated with the QS85OEV evaluation motherboard, which
provides power, 10BaseT Ethernet, serial interfaces, and access to
all I/O ports of the MPC850.
An enhanced kernel
called QSLinux (based on the standard Linux kernel) is provided. QSLinux
has been extended to include support for a flash file system and drivers
for Ethernet, HDLC, ATM/UTOPIA, SPI, and hardware watchdog.
A CD-ROM included
in the kit provides all of the development tools necessary for cross-compiling
the QSLinux kernel and kernel-space drivers, as well as for developing
user-space applications. The CD-ROM includes the GNU C/C++ cross-compiler,
assembler, linker, debugger, and library management tools. The tools
can be hosted from an 80x86 Linux workstation.
The QS85OEV Evaluation
Kit sells for $599. A European version is available for $649.
