Infrared Transceivers
The new TFDS6401
and TFDS6402 are the latest products to be offered in the Vishay
Telefunken "Dracula" package, which mounts to the edge of
the PCB, thus reduces the transceiveręs height relative to the board.
These are the first fast, infrared IrDA-compliant transceivers just
1.8 mm above the printed circuit board.

Complying with
IrDA standards, the new transceivers offer data transmission rates
up to 4 Mb/s at l-m distances. They enable infrared links among notebook
and palmtop computers, digital still and video cameras, cell phones
and pagers, and medical and industrial data collection devices. The
TFDS6401 and TFDS6402 also enable exchange of files among those devices.
Integrated components
include a photo pin diode, a high-power emitter, and low-power analog
control circuitry. Internal AGC circuitry ensures maximum sensitivity
to infrared light, even with optical interference. An operating voltage
range of 2.6 to 5.5 V allows designers to use a single device for
end products with a wide range of supply voltages.
The TFDS6401 provides
an auto-detect plug-and-play feature. The TFDS6402 provides a tri-state
output on the RXD pin, allowing several devices (IrDA transceivers
or other components) to share the same communications bus.
Pricing for U.S.
delivery in 100,000-piece quantities is $3.50.
