SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEWý

This article documents an attempt to marry something old with something new and demonstrates the successful application of the latest state-of-the-art microcontroller technology to an over a century-old communications technology. The near-limitless versatility of the 68HC11 MCU made it easily possible to accomplish this otherwise complex task using a low-cost SBC with a minimum of peripheral components. Forthcoming projects using the 68HC11 include a MIDI interface data transmitter used to transmit control signals to modern musical instrument keyboards, a 440-HZ sinewave concert pitch reference, and a lifetime of future projects too numerous, unique, and diverse to mention.
