Let's take a brief look at these questions and investigate some alternatives. Before venturing on this journey it helps to have an idea of where it will end. You're looking for a generator that produces samples of a sine wave. The generator should be able to run indefinitely (or at least until the batteries wear out); allow control of the waveform's frequency, phase and amplitude in a continuous fashion; provide an accurate representation of the sinusoid waveform; and be efficient in implementation.
