Many of you already know I'm fascinated by the idea of over-unity machines. Being an avowed "open-minded skeptic" I like to keep tabs on what is happening in this area, running the occasional experiment on my owni. This update from the fringe of science is for those of you who like to snicker at the impossibility of it all and maybe wonder if it just might just work. First an update of my own work, I have spent nearly 3 full hours over the last 6 months investigating the possibly of this stuff. I must say I have seen weird results, but I wouldn't invest any money yet. I was able to get a switching power supply to go chaotic at will, increasing efficiency about 5%, but definitely still below 100% overall. Still. . .I haven't hooked up a non-linear resistive load (like the red bombii had) so who knows! The homopolar generator that I had a chance to play with has been a disappointment. I have measured very low voltages from the disk, but they are so small that any possible extra power that might be there will be wasted on heating the resistance of the wire. In every case so far I was putting much more energy into it than out of it. Since it is a prototype, I don't dare run it too fast being afraid it might come apart. The traditional explanation for the unaccounted voltages is in the wire leads (the magnetic fields cuts them). Here is a link that supports this idea. The biggest reason I dropped the homopolar motor angle is that it requires a much more precise model than my machines are capable of creating. This is coupled with the fact that I am convinced if this can be done with some type of rotating mechanism, it can be done in a system without moving parts (such as the MEG). Speaking of the MEG, you still can't buy one. Seems odd to me that this isn't out yet. When I first reported on MEG it was due for availability in a year and a half. Eighteen months later and you can buy books on the topic, but not the MEG. Cautiously, I still give it a better chance than most of what I have looked into so far (see the "Walks Like a Duck" sidebar). A new name has come onto the seen, known as SEAS power. They are offering a million bucks for the first working designiii. The papers on the site make for interesting perusal too. The "Outside the box. . ." paper kept me interested for a while, but for some reason the link (http://www.senate.gov/~epw/loder.htm) on Loder didn't work. Maybe it's a conspiracy to keep us dependent on oil from terrorists (perish the thought!). Of course with a name like Loder you should be careful that you're not being told a load of. . . :) It seems that the availability of kits for over unity devices on the Internet is growing. Check out some of these links. Buyers beware though; they usually advertise things that don't work. (Did you ever actually build the helicopter from the plans you got in the back of popular science?) So you are taking a risk as this discussion so clearly points out. One guy by the name of Tilley, who was receiving a lot of hype a few months ago, is now being called a fraud (refer to sidebar). I guess the investors should have given the extension cord a little more thought the first time they noticed it going from the house to the shop with the free energy generator in it. It wasn't there to lower the electrical bill! I found the most levelheaded approach so far at the very last page of the Internet. No, I'm not kidding. Here is the link : http://www.theverylastpageoftheinternet.com/. You can get kits there at reasonable prices without free energy promises but definitely with weird results. They make a great springboard into goofing around with this stuff. My father always used to say, "if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it must be a duck." This proverbial adage purports to test a hypothesis by looking at its characteristics. This razor (not unlike Occam's) cuts both ways. It can prove both truth and lies. If there is something to this free energy, we will be able to test it. If it is a scam we should be able to prove it. There are an awful lot of quacks out there that talk like a duckiv, and very few, if any that walk like a duck. So listen to the squawk, watch the waddle and you tell me, is it a duck? ---------------------------- Footnotes i Just take a look at the "red bomb" ii Much to my surprise one reader is trying to repeat what happened with the "red bomb." We'll have to keep close tabs on that! iii One might wonder why Bearden doesn't look them up.
