Janet
Kroenke
Janet is an artist, a freelance writer, and a member
of the ChipCenter Irregulars—our stable of talented technophiles—who
also love writing about technology on a part-time basis and is ChipCenter's
resident techno-anthropologist. She lives and works in northern New Jersey,
and plays in Cyberspace. Her interests include science, religion and the History
of Ideas. She is part-time hacker and paranormal investigator. She also provides
a list of the best URLs for those of us who do our junk hunting on the Web.
Tom
Mahon
ChipCenter's own Tom Mahon is defying Andy Warhol and
enjoying much more than his predicted 15 minutes of fame. To our surprise and
delight, Tom, who recently became our spiritual issues correspondent, seems to
have already attracted a following in the fast-paced world of Silicon Valley.
In a recent profile on the author/entrepreneur/scholar, the East Bay Business
Journal lauded his mission to bring human values back into the mainstream of our
increasingly technological world. He's led numerous discussions, given many talks,
and had his essays published in places like the New York Times.
Tom Mahon finds that harmony between his responsibilities as a father, a public
relations consultant, and a global citizen is an ongoing balancing act. Over
the years, he's come up with a few truisms that help him remember what's really
important when he's eyeball-deep in the swirl of the Gigabit-enabled, IPO-driven
culture we now live in. He also speaks at industry gatherings and interfaith
assemblies about living humanely with the fruits of our ingenuity. Tom has been
writing about technology for over 25 years, as publicist, journalist, novelist
and dramatist, and he is the author of two published books about Silicon Valley.
Since the early '90s, Mahon has spoken and written widely on the subject of
being human in a high-tech culture. Visit www.reconnecting.com
for more information.)
Brian
McGinty
McGinty is an Electronics Technician with an AS Degree
from Thief River Falls Area Vocational-Technical Institute, and has dabbled
in satellite communications, high-power transmitters, microcontrollers, networking
and an extensive list of obsolete computer equipment. He first went online with
an Atari ST computer and 300 baud external modem in 1988. In the process of
rigorously avoiding programming, he has picked up several flavors of assembly
language, scripting, and BASIC, yet prefers the language known as 'solder'.
He currently works at a major theme park in central Florida.
Dr.
John Smallberries
Dr. John Smallberries is a shadowy, Mulderian construct
of AcmeVaporware (AVW), Inc., a shadowy, revolutionary parodic monstrosity that
doles out incomprehensible OSI-model mimetics, pseudo-lexiconographical logistics,
and torpolinguistic supply-chain data wake-up calls to anyone caught touching
their monkey within the tri-state area. Information on AcmeVaporware, its future
secret projects, and its delicious, profligate amounts of finest-quality vapor
are mostly classified. Regardless, it's all on www.acmevaporware.com
anyway, so whatever.
