Sandia Licenses Fairchild for MEMS Devices Fairchild has recently been licensed by Sandia National Laboratories to manufacture MEMS using Sandia's Summit IV process. Fairchild said the exclusive manufacturing license gives it immediate access to a perceived $7 billion market for MEMS devices. (EE Times) Siemens first in Europe to operate a high-temperature, superconductor motor Siemens showcased a motor with winding made of high-temperature, superconducting materials. With high-temperature superconductors, electrical resistance disappears at around minus 190 degrees Celsius. Power output is more than double that of conventional motors of similar size with copper windings, while losses are halved. (ChipCenter: WebScan)
STMicroelectronics, Onix To Co-Develop, Manufacture MEMS Switching SolutionsSTMicroelectronics and Onix Microsystems announced an agreement to co-develop and manufacture MEMS chipsets and ASICs for use in Onix's TRANSPORT Optical Switching Engineý. This agreement will position ST and Onix to better address the growing opportunities in optical switching for high capacity long haul and metropolitan area networks.
