This is an abstract of the "New IP Evaluation Model Reduces Risk, Speeds FIR Filter Design Time for Communications Test Equipment" article. Click here to see the entire article.
Introduction As designs become larger and more complex, the need for reusable blocks of intellectual property (IP) increases. The use of IP helps accelerate time to market, and allows the designer to focus on the unique, high-value-added portions of the system. However, using third-party IP can be risky. This article presents an example of a system that was designed with highly parameterized, reusable IP, where the ability to evaluate the prospective IP core before making the purchase decision reduced risk, and quickened the design process. It shows how a design can be implemented by downloading the IP via the Internet, parameterizing it, and fully evaluating it integrated within the entire system, all prior to licensing the IP core.
