Implementing Control Logic in Today's "Multi-Voltage" Systems BACKGROUND Today's complex system boards comprise a variety of ASICs, processors and other components, which operate at different voltages. The product-term devices that provide the glue logic/control logic (almost ubiquitously) on these system boards must be capable of 'talking' to these various components. That is; not only must the product-term device be compatible with different voltages, the I/O pins must be split so that different I/O pins on a single device can "talk" different voltages. Panasonic develops world leading consumer products and our systems feature the state-of-art components each operating at a different optimum voltage. When it came to implementing control logic and signal processing logic, we decided to choose a PLD that offered us the flexibility of working with different voltage levels - on the same chip. After evaluating various product-term architectures, Panasonic found that Altera's product-term PLDs were designed with the understanding that these devices have to interface with a mix of different voltages.
